Stud Poker

Stud Poker is one of the traditional card games found in numerous casinos. It is a very simple game of combinations and actions.

The aim of the game

The aim is to make the best five-card hand from the seven cards received and to beat the bank. It is a question a having in one’s hand a combination of cards of higher value than the croupier’s hand. The highest combination of cards determines the winner. Each hand is individually compared with the bank’s hand.

Setting and organisation

Stud Poker is played on a semi-circular table, whose top includes 7 spaces allocated to 7 players and a shoe intended for a deck of 52 cards (as in poker).

How the game works

After you have bought your chips at the till, go up to the table and you will see the minimum and maximum bets displayed. Before each game, the croupier rearranges and shuffles all of the cards five times. When he has finished, he cuts the deck of cards twice and then presents it to a player who cuts it once. He then places the deck on the table top. From this moment onwards, any card turned face up by mistake will be immediately “burned”, that is to say eliminated. To play, place your bet in the “ANTE” space in front of you, then choose to play the “BONUS”*.
Once all of the bets have been placed, the croupier announces “No more bets”. From now on, the player no longer has the right to touch his stakes.
The croupier gets a player to cut the deck. The croupier then begins dealing the cards from left to right. Each player receives 5 cards, face down, the bank has 4 cards, face down, and one card, face up.
You then look at your “Hand”. At this time in the game, you have two alternatives:
if you consider that your hand is insufficient to beat the bank, you say “Fold”. The croupier then takes away your cards. The game is then finished for you.
You can buy a card, for the amount of your initial bet. You then place the card that you want to discard on the “Payment band”. The purchase of a card results in the loss of the BONUS*.

Conclusion of the game

At the end, when all of the players have made their choice, the croupier turns his cards face up. If the bank has a hand lower than ACE/KING, he is said not to have “qualified”. The croupier then pays the “ANTE” space equally. You declare your hand if the “BONUS”* has been played. If his hand is equal to or higher than ACE/KING, it has “qualified”. He then compares his hand with the hand of each player still in the game. If the bank has “qualified”, the croupier gathers up all of the stakes in the “ANTE” and “RAISE” and “BONUS”* spaces.

If the bank has a hand equal to the player’s hand, there is a tie, it has neither lost nor won. If the bank has a hand lower than the player’s, the croupier pays the “ANTE” space equally and the “RAISE” space as many times as the winning combination allows.
