After the poor showing
of the blues yesterday in the friendly match against Nigeria, the
”coach” has some worries before the real matches
begin. With the spectators' whistles demanding his departure, Domenech
is feeling under more and more pressure. It must be said that the
french team's trainer could always take up poker as he is a fervent fan
of this cerebral sport. In fact, Raymond Domenech intends going to the
world poker capital: Las Vegas. In a months time, he will take to his
heels to measure himself against the best poker players in the world
and not in just any tournament because it's the World Series of Poker
(WSOP).
Poker: A family story
In the Domenech family, football isn't the only thing Raymond and
Estelle, who presented the football programme “100%
Football”, have in common, they also have poker. In fact,
Estelle has a fondness for poker, a game which has
been popular for several years and in the past she has shared her
knowledge with the television station Paris Premiere in the programme
“Aces Tournament”. Estelle Denis also organises
poker tournaments for showbusiness friends mostly of the most popular
type :
Texas
Hold'em Poker.
Domenech discovered poker in 2006 before the world cup and then
participated in poker tournaments. At these the French team selector
could bump into the ex-Olympique Lyonnais star, Vikash
Dhorasoo who has proved himself in this card game by recently being
placed third in the Paris Grand Prix. Domenech hopes to participate in
the final table at the WSOP called the Main Event but will have to face
some big names including many professional poker players.
Domenech states that his “work ( as a technician) has given
me the capacity to analyse an opponent”. Seeing the collapse
of the blues in football, it appears that the capacity to analyse the
opponent isn't really working. It must be said that there is still a
friendly match against Turkey and also that Domenech has the
rest of his life to perfectly master poker as some would say. When will
the blues “coach” get a WSOP or EPT bracelet? To be
continued...
