The tiger is honoured in this new Chinese year and Singapore decided to open the doors of its first casino on Sunday 14th of February at precisely 12.18 in order to start the year off well. The precise time of the first client was important because the Cantonese pronunciation should have then brought its share of prosperity to the first ever Singapore casino. Casino games were forbidden in Singapore and for five years it is now possible to play cash games. The Sentosa Resorts World was built on the island of Sentosa and cost the Malay group Genting 4.4 billion dollars. This complex isn't completely finished because a marine park, hotels and a maritime museum are also to be built. Also other casinos are going to provide competition for the Sentosa Resorts World games rooms including the Sands Marina Bay which should open its doors in two months due to construction delays.

Following the economic crisis, tourists have “snubbed” Singapore which has suffered a reduction of 4%. But this is a prosperous region of the world and one just has to witness its dynamism in sporting matters ( a Formula One stage takes place with in Singapore, editor's note), its luxury boutiques and an influx of affluent tourists from China. Singapore plans on attracting more tourists with its casinos and wishes to follow in the footprints of Macau's casinos. In fact Macau is the undisputed gaming capital in the world and this region attracts millions of tourists thanks to its many gaming complexes which are the only ones authorised in China. ( Macau was returned to China by the Portuguese, editor's note). Singapore plans on competing with Macau by launching similar gaming complexes and by using the same “ingredients” which have proved their worth globally, these are:

-Prestigious hotels
-Casinos with immense gaming rooms (slot machine, baccarat, blackjack, sic bo, craps, roulette, video poker, poker)
-Shopping centres with luxury brands,
-Entertainment: concerts with famous international stars, high class shows, etc.

These complexes concentrate not only on casino games but on a concept which attracts entire families as well as lovers of gaming.

The Malay group Genting specialises in gaming and has acquired shares in the millionaire Kirk Kerkorian's group, MGM Mirage ( The Genting casino group takes over 3.2% of MGM Mirage).
