Paris organises its first international poker and betting salon

On the 12, 13 and 14 of February 2010, in the Espace Champerret in the 17th district in Paris, you will find the first International Poker and Betting salon to be held in Paris. This event will take place in the middle of a particularly tense economic and technological climate in France mostly due to the   regularisation of online gaming and betting planned to come into effect in January 2010. The main objective of this salon is to present to all the visitors and to the mass of French online players, a range of offers dealing with online poker and online betting. In other words the virtual poker and internet sport betting operators will be able to present to French players, their respective offerings in a particular way which will see these operators get a French operating licence to allow them to legally deal with French consumers.

Besides online gaming operators, many shops selling equipment for gaming ( poker and casino games) and also certain organisers of offline poker tournaments and casino evenings will be present at this unprecedented event.

The International Poker and Betting Federation also intends to place itself at the very heart of the problems linked to the legalisation of online gaming in France. In fact for many years, several large online poker groups, for example Titan Poker, have had tens of thousands of regular players who come from the French market despite the fact that the authorities consider them to be acting illegally. For these operators it means placing a « legal » foot in the heart of the French market with a view to hypothetically gaining a French operating licence. To refresh one's memory, the proposed law on online gaming and betting sought by Bercy, plans to put in place a monitoring organisation, L'ARJEL, which will have a dual aim, to monitor the online gaming operators and to grant them a French operating licence. Those who don't hold one will be « banished » and won't be able, in principle, to deal with French gamers.

The online poker, online casino and sport betting operators are still waiting for this new legislation to come into effect and the holding of this first International Poker and Betting Salon is at least a good official opening if not one of the best ways to « legally » enter France.
