The Montreal casino security agents haven't spoken their last

For almost a year the Montreal casino has been the scene of a strike by security guards which hasn't been settled with the management on a change in working hours. While everything had been alright between the trade union and the management the latter changed the working hours and demanded that the security guards' hours be reduced by 30%. The angry employees threatened to go on strike and then carried it out. This has been going on since August 2008. We dealt with this story in our columns in an article called “Security personnel threaten strike action”. Up to now no agreement has been reached between trade union representatives and management. The Montreal casino security guards don't plan on remaining inactive and plan on being heard in the brand new Mont-Tremblant casino. So the security guards will go to the new casino to be heard and to express their unhappiness to the clients who will visit the Loto-Quebec gaming establishment.

The Montreal casino has often been the scene of  strikes in 2008. In fact the dealers went on strike to protest against the putting in place of electronic poker tables. An agreement was reached and certain tables integrated dealers and humanised Texas Hold'em poker. On the other hand the security staff hasn't come to an agreement and not less than 193 families are affected by this lock out. The staff plan on using every means of being heard by having a banner on a plane with the message “When will security return to the casino?”. In these times of economic crisis, the Montreal casino security employees are in a delicate situation which is beginning to seem long. In two months it will be the first anniversary of the strike. A sad anniversary for the 193 families affected by this disagreement in which both parties refuse to budge. To be continued...
