Indeed, a Chinese business woman claims to have lost in Macao, the new international gaming capital, at least 6.8 million dollars over a two year period. However she was lucky as she won a cumulator jackpot of 640,000 dollars in the Wynn casino. This is the second largest amount won on a slot machine in Macao. This player, who has all the signs of addiction plans to complain to the casino for not respecting the value of the payout, which was to her eyes insufficient. This Chinese lady also couldn't understand why the management refused to allow about  twenty members of her family “take over” the slot machines to play and  thus maximize her chances of winning.

This unusual story makes one smile but it also highlights gambling addiction in casinos, notably in Macao, which has taken over from Las Vegas as the gaming capital. Many casinos have been built on land reclaimed from the sea and this region is much sought after by the new Russian and Chinese millionaires. In face Russia and China have many millionaires or even billionaires, who have made a fortune in a short time mostly in construction, gas or petrol. Although the economic crisis has lowered the standard of living of these players ( without feeling at all sorry for them, editor's note), Macao remains a favoured place for lovers of casino games.

The large American casino groupssuch as Sheldon Adelson's Las Vegas Sands, Wynn or Kirk Kerkorian, the American millionaire of Armenian descent's MGM Mirage group, rushed to Macao to invest billions of dollars in spectacular casinos. Adelson opened the Venetian casino, an exact copy or the one in Las Vegas and other majestic casinos offer gaming rooms with slot machines, baccarat, roulette, sic bo, poker and many other table or card games as far as the eye can see.

It's not unusual to see players addicted to gambling lose all sense of normality in an environment that encourages the player to spend more and more. It's probably a safe bet that this player, who just won 640,000 dollars has lost them. To be continued......
